Featured in Aeronet's Associate Spotlight
In March 2025, Aeronet Worldwide featured me in its company-wide newsletter: from a forklift job offer in May 2024 to Warehouse Manager in about eight months.
In March 2025, Aeronet Worldwide put me in the Associate Spotlight of its company-wide newsletter. I had been with the company for about eight months.
How I got here
I moved to the United States from Kenya about five years before the spotlight, looking for better opportunities. I worked in home care, rideshare driving, food delivery and several warehouse jobs, and kept learning software development on the side.
In July 2023 I left my job and spent nearly ten months without stable work. I did freelance software development remotely, but it wasn't consistent enough to live on. I moved to Indianapolis to stay with a friend while I applied everywhere, and I kept hearing that I was overqualified.
In May 2024, Aeronet called me in to interview for a CSR position. I was offered a role as a forklift driver instead. The title didn't matter to me. The chance to work, grow and rebuild did.
From forklift driver to Warehouse Manager
I started as a forklift driver, became a receiving lead, worked as a CSR, moved up to floor lead, and was then promoted to Warehouse Manager, all in about eight months.
Commitment in action
Of Aeronet's core values (Integrity, Commitment and Passion), commitment is the one that resonates with me most. In warehousing, every detail matters. When we faced a major logistical challenge, I took the initiative to reorganize our workflows. That reduced delays, improved productivity and helped the team meet its deadlines.
"Smiley"
I never had a nickname until Aeronet. Our Houston general manager started calling me "Smiley", because I'm always smiling, no matter the situation.
Two shout-outs in the same issue
The same newsletter carried two shout-outs for me. One called me "a bona fide warehouse manager" and said Aeronet Houston is really coming along. The other passed on a client's praise for how my team and I were handling their account.
What drives me
My biggest achievement at Aeronet so far is being promoted to a manager-level position, and keeping our clients happy. What drives me every day is a passion for learning, growing and making a positive impact. Outside the warehouse, my favorite hobby is software development, and I keep building Smartclocksystems and Fade & Beyond.
